Whether you are searching for fine dining or just a night cap, Vera Mae’s is the place for you. The bistro has been a staple in the Muncie community for over a decade serving fine steaks, fresh seafood, and handcrafted cocktails.
The dark, traditional woodwork and ornate fireplace make me yearn for my best smoking jacket and a Cuban cigar. Reminiscing of my sister and I smoking stogies in our parent’s garage, I ponder what gourmet delight to order. That’s right dad, we smoked in the garage and hid the cigars in mom’s flower pots.
I resist the urge to throw back a few Old Fashioneds and settle on the clam chowder and cold salmon BLT. Full of flavor and delicious seafood, the clam chowder does not disappoint. The salmon BLT is topped with apple-wood smoked bacon, sweet tomato jam, and lemon-caper pepper aioli. If that doesn’t say melt-in-your-mouth, I don’t know what does.
As any good sister would do, I steal a couple bites of my sister’s baci bolognese (as pictured above): egg pastas filled with four cheeses and served on a bed of bolognese with ground beef, proscuitto, and fresh herbs. I will definitely be ordering that entree myself sometime soon!
We conclude our lunch with a slightly overdone creme brulee…sorry chef, you torched the top a wee too much.
If you’re looking to impress a date or simply put on your best smoking jacket and sip Old Fashioneds, Vera Mae’s is the happening place in Muncie.
