After a long overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I have a hankering for some fresh seafood and a cocktail. My sister and I drop our luggage at the hotel and immediately make our way to world renowned Copacabana Beach. Conveniently located just a block from our hotel, we stroll down the boardwalk and select one of the many beachside restaurants.

The extensive menu at Axé Rio includes everything from grilled sandwiches and fries to hamburgers and fish. I order the fried sardines and garlic shrimp and think how my cat, Winston, would devour my entrees. While sipping on caipirinhas and taking in the view, I anxiously await my first meal in Rio. The fried sardines did not disappoint. Slightly salty with a nice ocean taste, the sardines are my favorite part of our meal. I wash down my lunch with a strong caipirinha and am excited for the week ahead.
Our trek to Brazil was prompted by the Paralympic Games due to my brother-in-law coaching Team USA. I definitely wasn’t going to pass up a trip to Brazil! Axé Rio provided the perfect dining experience to commence our trip and exceptional views of Copacabana and beyond.

Cheers!
